Wood Burn Some Wooden Spoons

I can't think of any cook who wouldn't love to use these.
These spoons will just get better looking as they gain patina.
Cutting board ideas too.

Vintage Angel Cookie Ornaments

These adorable angels are from a McCall's Jiffy Tree Trimmings from sometime in the 70's. The cool things about these are that they are all made from one set of circle cutters, one set scalloped circle cutters and one scalloped star. The white frosting is painted on with a pastry brush. The colored "paint" is liquid food coloring that's been allowed to dry and then touched with a wet brush just like watercolor paint. The recipes are included. Click on the pictures for a larger version and then save to your own hard drive before printing.

Make your own cookie cutter

Carolyn of Juggling Frogs has a very interesting DIY section. One of my favorites is making cookie cutters from clipart and foil pans. She also shares some downloadables.

Make Your Own Gummies

While I'm on the subject of making candy these two sites are interesting.
This first is a recipe posted on epicurious.com.

Then there is a recipe for jello gummies on EasyFunSchool.
I liked this tip on ChowHound.com.
"The idea of making a grooved rack by pressing aluminum foil into a baking rack sounds good. Gummi ropes could easily be cut into gummy worms."
I would be combining this info and making fruit juice gummy worms.

Make Your Own Candy Bars

Corner-store treats go high end. The wonderful site, ChowHound.com, has recipes and downloadable wrappers for making your own versions of Peanut Butter Cups, Almond Joy, Twix, and Snickers. They have also rated the recipes for difficulty.

Make Your Own Tonic Water

Oregon isn't just the home of craft beer it's also the home of craft tonic water.
This great recipe by Jeffrey Morgenthaler is fruity and refreshing. It uses cinchona bark as the quinine source which is the reason I drink tonic.
Quinine is instant relief for my leg cramps. Many years ago I was able to purchase quinine in tablet form until it became available only by prescription. I always keep tonic water around for that twice a year, middle of the night leg cramp episode.

The recipe calls for agave syrup but I've used simple syrup which is much sweeter and I don't always care if I have bubbles and use plain water. Tasty cure for what ails me.
Here Food Chronicler looks at Q Tonic, a premium tonic made with Peruvian quinine, Cinchona Bark.

The Ultimate Buttercream Recipe

My friend, chronicler, makes the most beautiful cakes and has shared the recipe with a tutorial for this lucious looking buttercream that she says her customers think is fondant. I have never made a decent looking cake and now I know why. She calls the recipe Basic Buttercream; I call it the Ultimate because I've never seen this technique.
